Panos South Asia announces South Asia Climate Change Award (SACCA) Fellows, 2013

This year’s twenty four awardees have been selected by a panel of experts after careful consideration of nearly seventy applications from all forms of media from six countries in South Asia. Weightage for selection was given to form of media, gender and language to ensure a judicious mix. PSA’s SACCA fellowships are being offered as part of a Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) project for enhancing climate change awareness and understanding among journalists in South Asia. The project, which is currently in its second phase, has already produced several quality outputs across the region on Climate change–related issues.

Panos South Asia's research on Globalisation and Labour in the subcontinent
Panos South Asia's project on Globalisation and Labour involved extensive research by eminent academicians into specific issues that impinge on the livelihoods of people in the subcontinent due to globalisation. The focus countries of the research were India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.The research and its analytical findings have been compiled into PSA's latest book, " Globalisation and Labour in South Asia.

Panos South Asia announces Research fellowships on Women's Reproductive health issues

Panos South Asia's Nepal Country Office is offering four Research Fellowships to qualified journalists from print and broadcast media in Nepal. The fellowship, which is supported by the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), will seek to enhance the capacity of the journalists to include a rights-based perspective in their reporting on women's reproductive health issues. Successful candidates will participate in an orientation program and training sessions in Kathmandu, followed by a field trip and a two-month long research and writing period. An attractive fellowship will be provided to meet all the costs related to the research. Last date for receipt of applications is FEBRUARY 26th, 2013

Panos South Asia at the 11th CoP on Biodiversity.
Panos South Asia in association with the Forum of Environmental Journalists in India and the National Biodiversity Authority organised an interactive event at the Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity on 9th October, 2012 in Hyderabad. The theme was “Valuing Biodiversity: an interactive dialogue with the media.Dr. Balakrishna Pisupati, Chairman, NBA, Dr. William Dar, Director General ICRISAT and S. The exclusive focus of the book is on Dalit women, the most affected and doubly oppressed by both caste and patriarchy. Panos-CMS Young Environment Journalists Awards 2011 presented
Panos South Asia in association with CMS has announced the Panos- CMS Young Environment journalists Awards for the year 2011.Soma Basu of The Statesman, Kolkata is the winner in the print category and Manu C Kumar of Manorama News, Mumbai is the winner in the Electronic Media category. The awards which includes a citation and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each were presented to the winners at the inaugural ceremony of the CMS-Vatavaran Environment and Wildlife film festival,on December 6th at New Delhi.The awards are presented for excellence in environmental journalism  to individuals who have done "exemplary investigative and inspired reporting on environment issues in the country" ...More>>
 
Panos South Asia hosts its ninth Media Gatekeepers’ retreat at Chateau Jemeppe, Belgium
PSA’s 2010 Media Gatekeepers’ retreat which brought together Editors from India, Pakistan and Afghanistan deliberated on the topic  ‘No progress beyond ‘Lakshman Rekha ‘  in Kashmir. The discussants included  Bharat Bhushan, Anant Nath,Siddharth Varadarajan,  Surya Gangadharan and Om Thanvi from India; Shahir Zahine, Dr Hussain Yasa and Danish Karokhel from Afghanistan; Azhar Abbas, Zahid Hussain and Khalid Hameed Farooqi from Pakistan.
