Panos Fellow wins UNAIDS award for HIV/AIDS reportage in Bangladesh Qurratul-Ain-Tahmina has won the prestigious UNAIDS award for creating awareness on HIV/AIDS and drawing the attention of policy makers in Bangladesh, through her reportage as a Panos Fellow in 2006.Her award winning piece comprising three articles titled ‘Bangladesh is at risk of AIDS’ was published in early December 2006. Panos South Asia - Kalpavriksh Media dialogue on “SEZs: Oasis or Mirage?”held The fourth in the Panos South Asia- Kalpavriksh series of media dialogues, “SEZs: Oasis or Mirage?” was held on 26th February 2008 in New Delhi. This dialogue assumes significance with environmental groups raising concerns about the proliferation of SEZs in sensitive regions like coastal areas and highly polluted zones. Procedures for environmental decision-making have been diluted for SEZs with detailed environmental assessments to minimize potential adverse impact being given a go-by. The media dialogue is an effort to facilitate participants to take a closer nuanced look at the debate. Panos South Asia holds Media Seminar on “HIV and Beyond” in Colombo, Sri Lanka Panos South Asia’s Global AIDS Programme focusing on raising media awareness on HIV/AIDS held a seminar on the theme “HIV and Beyond” at the Sri Lanka Foundation, Colombo on March 28, 2008. Awards were presented to five journalists for their sensitive and analytical reportage on HIV/AIDS.
