Panos South Asia presents its report on ‘Reinforcing Dalit leadership and mainstreaming in Nepal’ The publication ‘Reinforcing Dalit’s leadership and mainstreaming in Nepal: Learning from across the Border’ is the result of the visit of a Nepali Dalit delegation to India to learn from the lives and times of Dalits in the world’s largest democracy. With the aim of reinforcing the Dalit leadership movement mainstreaming in Nepal, the delegation comprising Dalit media, activists and leaders of the country visited institutions in four Indian cities: Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Chennai. Panos South Asia’s multi-stakeholder dialogue in Switzerland on 'Conflict and reconciliation' by Naga researchers, media and academicians Continuing with our engagement with Naga partners and individuals to ensure that their struggle for self-determination is seen through prisms other than only the security-related and anthropological lenses, Panos South Asia facilitated travel of six partners drawn from varied fields to showcase cultural and academic productions in Switzerland. The visit which took place in early February 2009 centred around the ongoing exhibitions at the Museum of Culture at Basel and the Museum of Ethnology at Zurich. Organised thematically, programmes within the exchange spanned film screenings, talks and book readings by the participants. Panos South Asia- UNDP South Asia- Asia Pacific Editors’ Roundtable on Inequality & Hunger Twenty editors from across the South Asia-Asia Pacific region took part in the two day deliberations organized by Panos South Asia and UNDP in the first week of February 2009 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The objective of the discourse was to frame a better media strategy to deal with more effective coverage of Hunger-related issues; thus minimizing hunger and poverty in the region.The roundtable followed up research carried out by Panos Sri Lanka to ascertain levels of coverage and importance given to issues of hunger by the English Media across seven Asia Pacific countries. Five English newspapers were selected from the following countries: India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia. Move out of 'core issue' straightjacket, say Indo-Pak editors at Panos South Asia's seventh media retreat in Barcelona, Spain Panos South Asia hosted its seventh successive two-day media retreat at Barcelona, Spain on 23rd and 24th August 2008. Distinguished editors from the print and broadcast media in India and Pakistan touched on the complex new scenario in the region, the state of flux within both the countries and some fresh ideas of engagement.
