Panos South Asia hosts Media Gatekeepers' retreat on  'Fresh paradigms for peace: Evolving a new framework for negotiations in North South Asia' at Salzburg, Austria
The retreat which brought together editors and owners from three countries: India, Pakistan and Afghanistan was the first of its kind. Participants of the  high profile retreat included N Ravi, C Rammanohar Reddy, Bharat Bhushan, Shravan Kumar Garg and Anuradha Bhasin from India;Arif Nizami, Abbas Nasir, Zahid Hussain , Azhar Abbas and Syed Talat Hussain from Pakistan;Shahir Zihane, Hussain Yassa, Danish Karokhel and Ehsanullah Arianzai from Afghanistan. RELAY: Panos partners with Ishan to communicate and make research more accessible
Panos South Asia has been partnering with mainstream Assamese language publication Ishan in its bid to communicate research through the vernacular, thus making it accessible to all. Ishan publishes translations of original research work carried out in English on issues of conflict, identity and development. Panos’ RELAY programme in Northeast India has been supporting this unique montage media collectives’ initiative in making research accessible to more people in a language they understand.

Panos fellow Surya Shankar Dash's short film on the politics of land acquisition creates a stir
Vedanta, a UK-based company allegedly involved in the destruction of Niyamgiri Hills in Orissa, was chosen in June , 2009 as the recipient of the London-based World Environment Foundation’s award for best practices in environment management. The jury comprised two former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, Justice Ahmedi and Justice Bhagawati.  To protest and expose the true face of Vedanta Aluminium Limited, a subsidiary of UK-based Vedanta Resources Plc, a 30-minute film, Sham Public Hearing: The Real Face of Vedanta,  made by independent filmmaker Surya Shankar Dash was released in New Delhi on June 11. Surya Shankar Dash is one of young film-makers trained by Amar Kanwar under a Panos South Asia project to make short films on the politics of land acquisition. Panos South Asia has successfully launched Choti Choti Baatein, a radio programme by  children in Bihar on 19th July, 2009.This programme provides a platform to the children to bring to the fore their immediate concerns as well as issues critical to their communities.Choti Choti Batein commenced broadcast  at 11:30 am on All India Radio Patna's primary channel as a weekly half- hour programme.  The launch for the public and press was held simultaneously at the scheduled broadcast time, at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, Gandhi Maidan,Patna and was attended by over two hundred school children ...More»

The publication ‘Reinforcing Dalit’s leadership and mainstreaming in Nepal: Learning from across the Border’ is the result of the visit of a Nepali Dalit delegation to India to learn from the lives and times of Dalits in the world’s largest democracy. With the aim of reinforcing the Dalit leadership movement mainstreaming in Nepal, the delegation comprising Dalit media, activists and leaders of the country visited institutions in four Indian cities: Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Chennai.
