With land having assumed a pivotal role in the massive social engineering of our societies according to the cold logic of the free market, Panos South Asia felt the need to create fresh critical scholarship that not only interrogates the fundamental idea of land as commodity but also re-examines the usefulness of the apparently discredited notion of land rights in the creation of more just societies. The book ‘Leveling the Playing Field: A survey of Pakistan’s Land Reforms’ kicks off this project by taking a critical look, both academic as well as journalistic, at the politics of land reforms in Pakistan
